10,000 Steps Clermont

Clermont health staff take up 10,000 Steps challenge

More than 50 Clermont Multi Purpose Health Service (MPHS) staff have been walking up a storm in the 10,000 Steps challenge since 17 May.

Clermont Multi Purpose Health Service Acting Project Officer Lee Garrels said there are nine teams and 54 participants taking up the challenge.

"Each team has been trying to out do each other and take as many steps as possible, which is really great to see," Ms Garrels said.

Staff have been provided with pedometers from the Rural Primary Health Services Physical Activity project."

"All of our teams are doing really well and have taken up the challenge with an open mind."

The names of the teams include:

  • Community Clod Hoppers
  • Sand Goanna's
  • Footpath Floosies
  • Wii not Fit
  • Gym Junkies
  • Oompha Loumpas
  • Beauty and the Beasts, and
  • The Try Hards.

Ms Garrels said they are currently in their third week of the challenge and there are stand out teams already. "In first place so far is the Community Clod Hoppers, with an accumulation of an amazing 1,010,454 steps. The official 10,000 Steps path, which was launched here in Clermont recently, offers a very scenic route for staff and the community to exercise. It is also a fantastic way for them to know how many steps they are taking by walking that path. We encourage all staff and community members to get out there and achieve their 10,000 steps every day as the Clermont MPHS staff are doing."
