Walking v Running... What’s the difference?

Asics walking shoes are purpose built for walking. Considering there are vast biomechanical differences involved in walking and running, it is imperative to select the correct footwear for your chosen activity.

Following is a list highlighting the differences between the construction of walking and running shoes.

  1. As opposed to the strike position on the heel of a running shoe, the initial contact with the ground is more central when we walk, so the heel strike zone needs to be larger and more centred.
  2. When we walk there is much less forward momentum than when we run, therefore a walking shoe needs increased forefoot flexibility to enhance propulsion for the next step.
  3. ASICS walking shoes have a stable mid arch to guide the foot effortlessly through the gait cycle from heel contact right through to foot flat – and finally to toe off/propulsion phase.
  4. ASICS walking shoe are lighter, allowing you to increase your fitness by walking further with less effort.

ASICS is committed to encouraging greater levels of exercise among people of all ages, genders and walks of life, by developing safer, more stable and comfortable footwear. This is why ASICS has evolved its walking footwear into three categories: HEALTH, FITNESS and COMFORT
