10,000 Steps Ipswich

Every Step Counts

10000 steps walk ipswich

Every step counts towards achieving the daily step goal for adults of 10,000 steps!  Most people can achieve this goal by participating in 30 minutes of moderate physical activity like brisk walking in addition to normal everyday activity like taking the stairs instead of the lift.  Start making every step count by:

1. Getting a pedometer:

You will need to get a pedometer to count your steps.  You can borrow one from the library or get one for free from the Ipswich Hospital Foundation:

  • Borrow a pedometer – you can borrow a pedometer from the Ipswich Library (45 Roderick Street, Ipswich – entrances via South and Roderick Streets).
  • Free pedometers – you can get a free pedometer from the Ipswich Hospital Foundation by becoming a member (for free) of Ipswich Healthy 4 Life!  After becoming a member contact the Ipswich Hospital Foundation on 07) 3817 2318 or info@ihfoundation.org.au to arrange collection of your free pedometer.

2. Logging your steps:

Become a member of 10,000 steps and use the online step log to keep track of your progress, or pick up a step log from the library if borrowing a pedometer.

3. Being active every day in as many ways as you can:

Make walking part of your everyday lifestyle:

  • Get to know people in your community by joining an Ipswich walking group
  • Get together with friends and family and participate in an Ipswich walking event
  • Compete against friends, family and workmates in an I-Challenge
  • Get back to nature and go for a bushwalk in one of Ipswich's many reserves and conservation parks
  • Walk instead of using the car
  • Park further away from your destination and walk the rest of the way
  • Walk to and from your train station or bus stop, and get on or off at a stop that is further away
  • Take the stairs instead of the lift
  • Walk rather than rest on escalators and travelators
