10,000 Steps Townsville

In 2004, 10,000 Steps was launched in Townsville.

10,000 Steps launch in Rossiter Park, 2004
In 2005 the first 10,000 Steps signage was constructed at Aplin’s Weir. The pedometer loan scheme from Townsville City Council Libraries was also established in this year.

Ross River Parkway signage
Townsville now has signage at 3 sites: Anderson Botanic Gardens, and two circuits along Ross River Parkway - the Aplin’s Circuit and the Wetlands Circuit.

Walkway Signage
Townsville’s latest walkway – Rowes Bay to Pallarenda has recently been completed showcasing some of Townsville’s beautiful foreshore scenery with Magnetic Island in the background.

This walkway has a total of 10,000 Steps for those that like a little more of a
challenge!
A number of walking paths around Townsville have now been labelled "10,000 Steps Paths".
These paths display features such as directional signs, destination signs and distance markers.
For maps of all the paths, download the Townsville Walkways Pamphlet below. Townsville Walkways Pamphlet
Pedometers
For most people, achieving 10,000 steps a day can be as simple as adding a 30 minute walk to your daily routine (therefore also achieving the National Physical Activity Guidelines).
However, with our modern conveniences and advances in technology, both at home and work, our incidental activity over the course of a day is rapidly decreasing.
This is where the pedometer assists us in reminding you how many, or how few, steps have been taken for the day.
Townsville City Council libraries have added 75 new pedometers to their collection, making a total of 150 pedometers available for loan to the public.
