Hi I started with the 10,000 Steps program in late April. I also see a gym coach on Saturday mornings. I have found recording my steps with a comment has been great. I print this out and take it to my gym coach. This has created an extra level of accountability for continuing on with the program.
I haven't started to lose weight yet. I am hoping this is because I am building muscles :)
Unfortunately I have already been diagnosed with diabetes type II. The walking has helped me keep my blood sugar readings in the desired zone. Kathie

I'm inspired by your accountability. I see people at the YMCA who have type II and work out to lower it, and weight loss comes with it, so you will get there! Penny

Boy , I feel like a sloth, I am studying currently and I feel like my bottom is like a chair. Today I will not only concentrate on my goal 'to get the ass-signment done' but also to get off my butt and look after me. I have only six months to go before I finish and there has to be a life after all of this.... So today I have taken the first step..... the first step of the next journey...
Cheers, good luck to everyone out there in cyberspace....

so tough to study and work out at the same time! maybe a couple of 'quick walk/jog outside for a couple of minute' breaks? congrats on all the brain work! penny

I have spent my life worrying about weight loss, periodically doing something about it then falling off the wagon again! I found this site recommended in a Weight Watchers magazine and it is suiting my obsessive/ compulsive nature! I am actually sticking to something for more than a week!
Here is what I did:
1. Bought a pedometer
2. Joined 10000 Steps
3. Accepted last month’s challenge (basic, but I came in mid-way through the month & still managed 93%)
4. Started counting points (in a loose way) based on the old Weight Watcher books I still had
5. Uploaded all my CD's onto ITunes (took me days!)
6. Dug out an old IPod Shuffle & downloaded masses of rock & dance tunes
7. Bought a new set of headphones (fabulous!!! Sennheiser) couldn't stand the stupid ear bud things any longer
8. Found a local half marathon happening in June and persuaded a friend to enter with me
9. Stopped drinking beer during the week
10. Decided to stop worrying about losing weight & just
Concentrated on getting fit

This program really does help to raise awareness of your physical activity (or sometimes lack of) and I have found it very motivating, Jennifer. You've made a great start! I've just managed to finish the Indian trek and I'm now keen to push on with the NZ challenge at the medium rate. See you there!

Hi.
I have been a member of 10,000 Steps since 2008, on and off.
2010 was a horror year and a wake up call, snapped my right Achilles twice in the same year, and then had to start a rehab program, to learn to walk again.
2011 saw me getting bigger and bigger. At 103.5kg I thought I have got to do something about this, so made a new years resolution at the beginning of this year.
I am now 96.3kg and walked my first millionth step day before yesterday. Its true what they say, you don't know what you've got till its gone, I lost my mobility for a year and now that I have it back I cherish it each and every day.

Congratulations on your 1 millionth step. It's an awesome feeling when you reach that first million.
It is true what they say that you don't know what you've got till it's gone, well done on getting your mobility back.
Keep going, you are doing great!

Well done overcoming injury with such persistence. I fell off the wagon, for no good reason, so am inspired to follow your example. wendy

Hello, I joined this program on 06/02/2012 and enjoy it. It encouraged me to start walking again around the beach and parks, enjoy fresh air instead of going gym after 1 year. I got my confidence back. Also I start dancing too. Thanks to every one there who prepared this program. Good luck to everyone. Homira

Hello, I joined this site yesterday. But have been walking for 1 week now. Am so glad I stumbled on this site. There is nothing more motivating than being cheered on by people with similar goals. I have done every fad diet possible. I figured I have to find a way to loose weight in a healthy way. I was 103kg when I started and 99kg now. I intend to take it one day at a time. I need loads of encouragement and motivation. Wish me luck!

I started the 10,000 steps challenge in 2010 as a way to keep me inspired and motivated to keep moving, lose weight and better manage my diabetes.
In February 2011 I had to go for surgery to remove a tumour from the middle of my brain. It did slow me down a bit but I have continued to use 10,000 steps to keep me motivated to keep walking. I cannot recommend it enough :)
