Wellbeing SA is excited to bring South Australians together for the 2021 Billion Steps Challenge. Wellbeing SA is committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of all South Australians. SA's Billion Steps Challenge is about bringing the state together and encouraging each other to find more ways to move throughout the day.

Every step that we take counts towards being healthier and happier. The more we move our bodies, the more physical and emotional health benefits we gain. Physical activity strengthens our muscles and bones, improves our posture and balance, helps us to sleep better and boosts our mood.

Together, Wellbeing SA and 10,000 Steps want to encourage you to challenge yourself, family, friends and workmates to move more, track your activity and work together to achieve our state goal of one billion steps (1,000,000,000 steps)!

What is South Australia's Billion Steps Challenge?

South Australia's Billion Steps Challenge is a goal-based challenge starting on the 1st of October 2021. The step total from every 10,000 Steps member located in South Australia will be automatically tallied throughout the Challenge. The Challenge will be completed when the 1 billion step goal is reached. In 2020, the billion steps target was reached in 65 days.

How do I get involved?

Getting involved is easy: 

  • Sign up or sign in here
  • Log your steps and minutes of physical activity
  • Spread the word with your family, friends and workmates!

Every move counts!

Tracking your steps and activity is a great motivation to keep moving through the day. Whether you are walking, wheeling, cycling or swimming, every move counts.

Set yourself a daily goal and use a pedometer, Fitbit, Garmin, Google Fit or other device to track your activity and add them to your 10,000 Steps Dashboard.

How will you reach your activity goal? Whether it's a planned walk that you do regularly, swim or cycle or incidental movement across the day, the more you move the better your body and mind will feel! 

Once the Challenge is active on the 1st of October, you will be able to view South Australia's progress towards our goal of 1 billion steps by clicking on SA's Billion Steps Challenge Dashboard card.

I loved the idea, motivating to be part of a huge state wide challenge.
The Billions step challenge encouraged me to aim for a goal each day of being active.
I liked having a shared challenge. SA isn’t a very big place, so it is nice to know that as a team we walked a billion steps.
During a rough year has been nice to have something positive to bring the team together. The steps challenge has definitely improved my fitness, even on the days i was too tired i did not want to let the team down so would go for an extra walk to get my steps up. I am looking forward to making this a part of my day to day life.
