10,000 Steps Friends

Friends are a great way to connect long-term through 10,000 Steps.

Track your Friends step achievements across time with your Friends Leaderboard.

Step 1. Create Your Account

To join, create and verify an account with 10,000 Steps. You might already have one, if you’ve used 10,000 Steps in the past.

Step 2. Add Your Friends

Ask your friends or colleagues to create their accounts, and which email address they used. Once they've created their account, you'll be able to invite them to be your Friend.

Step 3. Log or Sync Your Steps

You can use any step-counting device you have available. Some devices allow you to sync steps, or you can log them each day on the app or the website.

How You Can Use Friends

Friends are a free feature available to all 10,000 Steps members.

Start a Long-Term Journey with Friends

With Friends, you can add people as permanent challenge buddies. By logging your steps over time with your Friends, you can start to build daily, weekly, monthly and lifetime achievements through your Friends Leaderboard.

Add friends, family or colleagues that you'd like to keep tracking with over a long period of time. Set a custom reminder to log your steps and check in with your Friends to see how their week went. Checking in with Friends who haven't logged steps in a while can be a great way to keep in touch.

Note: You can have as many Friends as you like. You can add and remove Friends any time on the website.
Keep Moving Between Challenges

Consistent logging with Friends complements other 10,000 Steps Challenges. Whenever you like throughout the year, you and your Friends could also:

Note: You only need to log your steps once a day, no matter which Challenges you take part in. Your Friends are not visible to other members.

Friends for Organisations and Coordinators

There are two key ways organisations can engage with Friends.

Promote Social Connection and Physical Activity
Great for Clinicians, Health Professionals, or Support Workers

Friends are intended to bring together people and physical activity over the long term. Friends may be perfect for:

  • Recommending a simple structured activity for a client or patient that can involve friends or family.
  • Offering a low-barrier way for individuals to stay active and connect.
  • Supporting long-term physical activity habits without requiring Coordinator involvement.

You don’t need to run or manage anything – just refer individuals to join 10,000 Steps and log their steps with their Friends. Our Personal Challenge, Monthly Challenges or Annual Leaderboard could be recommended for solo engagement.

Note: As a Coordinator, you’ll only see participants activity if you are also their Friend on 10,000 Steps.
Support Broader Engagement
Great for in between team-based events.

As a Coordinator, you can encourage or promote Friends within your organisation as a simple, self-directed activity for small groups of individuals. Friends can offer:

  • An easy, no-fuss option for continued physical activity between team-based events.
  • A way to keep individuals engaged year-round without needing to run a new challenge.
  • A way to supporting staff who prefer to be active with their own friends or family, rather than in workplace teams.
  • A way to promote a continuous culture of physical activity in your workplace.
Note: Friends are not designed for short term team-based competition. Check out Group Challenges, Tournaments, and Health Challenges for team-based competitions with timeframes.
