Monthly Challenges: How You Can Get Involved
Monthly Challenges are free and open to all 10,000 Steps members.
Join at Any Time – Just for You
You can join the Monthly Challenge at any point during the month. Choose one of four virtual journey options that aligns best with your personal daily step goals.
You can use this as a solo challenge - no teams, no captains, just your own progress and motivation. It's a great way to stay accountable, achieve your personal step and activity goals, or build a daily walking habit.
If you opt in, you can also appear on the members-only Monthly Challenge Leaderboard, competing with others in your chosen journey. Leaderboard rankings are based on total steps and how quickly you complete your virtual journey.
Bonus: All Australian members who complete 100% of their journey are entered into a random prize draw each month (T&Cs apply).
Keep Moving – Before, After, or Alongside Other Challenges
Monthly Challenges are a flexible option that can complement other 10,000 Steps events. You can:
- Take part between larger team-based challenges like Group Challenges or Tournaments.
- Join a Monthly Challenge at the same time as a team event, as an additional personal goal.
- Use them as an ongoing activity to stay engaged throughout the year.
If you opt in, you can also appear on the Monthly Challenge Leaderboard, and the 10,000 Steps Annual Leaderboard.
Note: Monthly Challenges begin on the first day of the month and end on the last day of the month. This means they might start before, or end after other Challenges.
Monthly Challenges: Organisations and Coordinators
There are two key ways organisations can engage with 10,000 Steps community challenges like Monthly Challenges.
Promote Participation
Great for Clinicians, Health Professionals, or Support Workers
Monthly Challenges are a simple, ready-made option you can recommend to individuals. Because no setup or team creation is required, they are perfect for:
- Recommending a structured activity for a client or patient.
- Offering a low-barrier way for individuals to stay active.
- Supporting long-term engagement without requiring Coordinator involvement.
You don’t need to run or manage anything – just refer individuals to join 10,000 Steps and participate in 10,000 Steps community challenges like the Monthly Challenges. Our Personal Challenge or Annual Leaderboard could also be recommended.
Note: As a Coordinator, you’ll only see participants on the leaderboard if you join the same Monthly Challenge and journey option.
Support Broader Engagement
Great for in between team-based events.
As a coordinator, you can encourage or promote Monthly Challenges within your organisation as a simple, self-directed activity for individuals. These challenges are ideal for:
- Providing an easy, no-fuss option between team-based events.
- Keeping individuals engaged year-round without needing to run a new challenge.
- Supporting staff who prefer to be active on their own rather than in teams.
- Promoting a continuous culture of physical activity in your workplace.
Note: Monthly Challenges are not designed for team-based competition. Check out Group Challenges, Tournaments, and Health Challenges for team-based competitions.
