Move more, in ways that work for you.

The Move Together Challenge is a Queensland‑wide initiative designed to make walking and everyday movement easier to build into everyday life. It supports people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to be more active in practical, achievable ways, at work, home and in the community.

From 3 August to 13 September, any steps and physical activity you log in your 10,000 Steps account will automatically count towards the Challenge. Walking, whether it is a short walk, a longer stroll, or movement during daily tasks like housework or gardening all counts towards your total.

Every step contributes to a shared statewide total, showing how regular walking adds up across Queensland. Set your own goals, track your progress, and take part in the Challenge.

Let’s see how many steps Queensland can reach!

Take Part Your Way

Whether you're participating on your own, with friends and family, or through your workplace or community organisation, there's a way to take part that suits you.

Start by registering as an individual. From there, you can join a Group with friends and family, participate in a Tournament organised by your workplace or community organisation, or become the champion who brings people together by creating one.

Every steps and minute of activity logged counts towards the Challenge. If you later join a Group or Tournament, the steps you've logged throughout the Challenge will also contribute to those totals.

Individuals
Sign up to Join the Challenge

Start your Challenge journey and help contribute to Queensland's step total.

Whether you're already active or just getting started, every step counts. From 3 August, any steps and physical activity you log through your 10,000 Steps account will contribute to the Challenge.

Look for simple ways to move more throughout your day, take the stairs, park a little further away, get out in the garden, walk the dog, or add a short walk to your routine. Small changes can add up over the six weeks and help you track your own progress along the way.

Family and friends
Stay Connected and Move Together

Make the Challenge more enjoyable by getting active with the people around you.

Create a Group with friends, family, neighbours or colleagues and track your progress throughout the Challenge. With up to 20 members, Groups are a great way to stay connected, check in with each other and keep motivation high.

Whether it's an early morning walk, a lunchtime stroll, or a regular catch-up while getting some steps in, moving together can help make activity a more enjoyable part of everyday life.

Workplaces and communities
Get your Organisation Involved

Inspire movement across your workplace or community organisation.

The Challenge is a great way to bring people together around a shared goal while encouraging healthier habits, stronger connections and a culture of wellbeing. Whether you're part of a workplace, council, community group or volunteer organisation, taking part can help motivate more people to get active.

It's quick and easy to create a Tournament for your workplace or community. Walking meetings, lunchtime walks and friendly competition between teams can help build connections and motivate participation.

Queensland Health Steps Challenge

Do you work at a Queensland Hospital and Health Service? We have an extra challenge, just for you.

The Move Together Challenge runs alongside the 2026 Queensland Health Steps Challenge (QHSC), a dedicated initiative for Hospital and Health Service teams to support staff wellbeing, strengthen connections, and encourage more movement across the workforce.

Participants join their HHS and track their steps, contributing to their team on the QHSC leaderboard encouraging a shared sense of purpose across their workplace. At the same time, every step counts towards the statewide Move Together Challenge, meaning you’re supporting your team while also being part of a broader Queensland-wide effort to move more, together.

Movement Matters

Being physically active each day, especially through regular walking and everyday tasks, supports better physical health, improved mental wellbeing, and stronger social connection.

Regular walking and light activity, even in small amounts, is linked to increased energy, improved mood, better sleep, and reduced risk of chronic conditions. Activities like walking to the shops, doing housework, gardening, or moving around at work all contribute. No gym or structured exercise is required.

Small actions add up. Adding a few extra steps through daily walking and routine activities, consistently over time, can lead to meaningful improvements in how you feel.

This Challenge is designed to be inclusive, flexible, and achievable. It is not about speed, distance, or fitness levels. It is about walking more where you can, moving through everyday tasks, and building habits that fit real life and last.

Boost Your Challenge Participation

Simple Step Tracking for Everyone

Need a simple, low‑cost way to track your steps? A pedometer is an easy and accessible option that helps everyone take part in the Challenge.

Pedometers are ideal if you don’t use a smartphone or wearable and they’re a great solution for health workers and others who can’t wear wrist‑based devices at work.

Move Together Stakeholder Kit

Promote the 2026 Move Together Challenge in your organisation and community with our Stakeholder Kit that has done the legwork for you. It brings together a set of ready-made resources you can use straight away to build awareness and keep people engaged across the Challenge.

What’s included:

  • Challenge overview content to help you clearly explain how to get involved
  • Newsletter banners for internal updates
  • Digital screensavers to keep the Challenge visible day-to-day
  • A3 and A4 posters (print-ready files provided) for worksites and shared spaces
  • Social media tiles (coming soon) for internal and external channels

Each resource has been developed in two versions so you can use them at different stages:

  • Sign-up call to action – to drive registrations leading into launch
  • Log your steps call to action – to keep momentum going once the Challenge is underway

Using the kit helps you keep messaging consistent and visible, making it easier for staff to understand how to get involved and stay motivated throughout the Challenge.
